Located on the North shore of Lake Atitlan, with 3200 inhabitants, 99% indigenous population, maya-kakchiquel and at 1666 ms above sea level. This village count 5 others communities, 2 on the shore line Jaibalito and Tzununa. Santa Cruz main village was named after Santa Elena de la Cruz and the fiesta day of the pueblo is on May the 3rd. This is one of the poorest village in Guatemala, the village is located at the end of a steep path extending from the dock on the lake to the center of town. There is a dirt road access but it is very dangerous and a 4x4 is required.
Along the shore you will find several hotels and restaurants and it is where most of the foreigners leave.
Named the "Water Spots Capital of the Lake, because it offers scuba, water skiing, kayaks rentals and a lot of parties" (From Sol de Atitlan Magazin) it is also one of the view villages in Guatemala with no crimes. There fore you will find in the area a lot of single women or mother leaving here.
